NYU KENDO

EST. 2006
NYU Kendo Club brings together students of all experience levels to practice, compete, and grow through kendo. Beginners are always welcome, and no prior martial arts experience is required.
Through regular training, tournaments, and club activities, we aim to build strong kendoka(剣道家) and a supportive community at NYU.
Never practiced kendo before? That is completely fine.
Our beginner program introduces you to the fundamentals of kendo, including etiquette, footwork, basic strikes, and shinai handling. As you progress, you will gradually move into uniform, armor, and full practice with the rest of the club.
Beginner equipment is available, so you do not need to purchase everything before getting started.
No experience required. Just come ready to learn.
For twenty years, NYU Kendo Club has brought together generations of students through practice, competition, and a shared passion for kendo.
From beginners holding a shinai for the first time to experienced members representing NYU at collegiate tournaments, our club continues to grow while carrying forward the community built by those who came before us.
Develop your fundamentals through regular practice, drills, keiko, and instruction alongside members of different experience levels.
Represent NYU at collegiate and regional tournaments and test your kendo against practitioners from universities and dojos across the country.
Kendo brings us together both inside and outside the dojo. From tournaments and trips to club dinners and social events, NYU Kendo is a community as much as it is a team.
Follow our upcoming practices, tournaments, competitions, and club events throughout the academic year.
Practices, tournaments, team trips, club events, and everything in between.
Follow @nyukendo on Instagram for the latest from the club.
No previous experience is necessary.
Whether you are looking for a new sport, interested in Japanese martial arts, or already practice kendo, we would love to have you join us.
